Shantale D’Aoust completed her law degree entirely in French at the Université de Moncton in New Brunswick. During law school, Shantale served as the Pro Bono Students Canada Family Law Program Coordinator, where she developed a strong interest in helping individuals navigate challenging legal circumstances. After earning her Juris Doctor, she moved to St. Albert to article and was called to the Bar of Alberta in September 2021.
Shantale’s legal experience is grounded in advocacy and litigation, having previously practiced in the areas of general civil litigation, personal injury, and criminal defence. She now focuses her practice on a wide range of family law matters, including donor and surrogacy agreements, and the occasional civil litigation and wills and estates file.
Her experience allows her to approach legal disputes with a practical and strategic perspective, while recognizing that every client’s circumstances are unique. Shantale understands that, for her clients, the legal issue is rarely the only challenge they are facing. She strives to help clients navigate these difficult circumstances by assessing risks, explaining their options, and developing practical solutions that allow them to move forward with greater confidence and control. Where appropriate, Shantale emphasizes negotiation and alternative dispute resolution, with the goal of resolving matters in a way that is both constructive and tailored to her clients’ individual needs.
Prior to pursuing her legal career, Shantale completed a Joint Honours Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science at the University of Ottawa. In 2016, she moved to Lille, France, where she completed a Certificate in Sustainability and Social Corporate Responsibility. She also has extensive volunteer experience with public offices and previously worked in Internal Audit and Evaluation for the National Research Council of Canada.
